Jack - I hear you, and I can understand why you feel that way now, but it will pay off later, trust me. I went aviation - P-3's to be exact - and it wasn't until I was given a tour in USS Carl Vinson (an aircraft carrier for the uninitiated) that I had to serve in a ship, and do "SWO stuff". Previously, my focus had been mostly on Anti-submarine warfare and tactics.

At Tactical Action Officer School, I had to learn unbelievable amounts of US and Soviet aircraft, ship, and submarine platforms with all of their missile threats, torpedo ranges, gun ranges, etc., all for a quiz the next morning. It went on for 3 months or so. It made pro-knowledge at USNA seem like a walk in the park. 8 hours of class, a couple hours break for dinner and a workout, and then back to the school to study because most of our study material was classified.

It will come in handy later - honest - and it may help to save your ship, your crew and your life. 'Nuff said?

On the USNA website, under "Student Life", their is a Daily Schedule. It says that from 6:30 to 7:00 is "Special instruction period for plebes". Is this the time for comearounds, or is this something different?

It can be used for anything. A lot depends on the company. Some companies use it as a morning huddle....

I can only speak to one company, that used sunday nights as the official "testing of the plebes"... on their military knowledge, pro knowledge, etc. Often see plebes in town sitting with whatever material they are give, studying and testing each other. I remember one packet that listed all the different uniforms and components of each, when and where they were to be worn, and by whom. I didn't get past page 2!!! Never realized there were so many of them and such detailed protocols regarding their use!

Comearounds can happen at any time.... the only time I believe they are discouraged is during study hours, but again, that might also be company-specific.

Although the USNA web site can be very helpful - do realize that some information is out of date.

Like Navy2010, my Mid's company also did theirs on Sunday nights. Discouraged during study times but can happen, another reason to make Nimitz Library your place to study.

LOL!!!! So true!!! Will add to that the sports locker rooms, if you are lucky enough to have access!!!!!
