<p>Are you talking about the professors? Because, for the most part, the students have not yet managed a high-paying profession. Well, that doesn’t work either, because teaching isn’t generally considered a high paying profession. And it doesn’t apply at all to Santa Cruz, because it isn’t a large city. I STILL do not get the yuppie reference…</p>

<p>And, as you say, your CA residence is not an issue because you don’t like the UCs, don’t want to attend the UCs and, most significantly, are not eligible to apply to the UCs.</p>

<p>Earlier in the thread you said it was your opinion that California had the worst school system in the United States, so why are you even asking? Even if New York was the second worst (in your opinion), it would be better to put that down than to declare to universities that you are from the “worst school system in the United States.” I do not understand why you are asking the question if that is the opinion you have of California schools. Put down that you are from New York.</p>

<p>because most of my classes are taken in new york, im interested about how colleges take into account geographical location, and im like someone said for umaryland, a lot of students are applying there from the ny/nj area, so it would make it more competitive. the school accepts students from all 50 states. im just asking a simple question… this is why i hate people on cc..</p>
