Coming up with THE ESSAY

I have finally finished all the supplements for the colleges I am applying to but I still need to complete the common app essay- the big one. I've been thinking about it for weeks and I don;t like my ideas so far. I think I would like to do something a little creative, not one of the choices they give because I really don't have something extremely unique for one of those. I really need a good essay to get into the schools I want.

How did you guys come up with your essays, tips, advice, ideas, etc?

Make some lists! Try writing 10 things that are important to you, things you wish were different in the world, cheesy stuff. Genuine ideas can actually come out of this.

The common app essay can be about anything really. The only requirement is that it reveals something about YOU. You can write about your bicycle ride to school, eating lunch with your friends, spending time with your family, etc.

Good luck!
ps. a good question to ask yourself when your done is “could anyone else have written this essay?” If the answer is yes, spice it up and make it unique. The topic can be mundane, but make the details quirky.
