Simmons offers an incredible opportunity for you, specifically in their 3+1 BS/MS programs in two specific majors:
- ComputerScience + Library and Information Science
- Information Technology + Library and Information Science
This is an accelerated program in which you get your bachelor’s degree in 3 years and then get your master’s in your 4th year. It would be useful to know if your scholarship will pay for the 4 years of these programs. It would also be important to know if you can get a minor in history or art history to fulfill your interest there.
I checked the faculty and one of them has her bachelor’s degree from Simmons. So, obviously no problem here to get both undergrad and master’s degrees from the same college (as evidenced by the combined degrees program), or to get a faculty appointment later. I also looked at the faculty at the Smith College Library. Several have their MLIS from Simmons. Undergrad degrees are all over the place - St. Anselm’s, Ithaca College, University of Alberta, UCLA, Mt. Holyoke, so an undergrad degree from a prestigious college is not necessary to go where you want to go.
By the way, the Simmons College of Library Science is ranked in the top dozen nationally in US News, so it is prestigious in its own right.
Best of luck.
