So, say I was an intern at Microsoft, I helped raise couple million dollars for a nonprofit, and I lead my own volunteer-oriented NGO. If I marked one as carrier oriented and the other two as volunteering, and one school I’m applying to listed not considered for both work experience and volunteering (on collegedata and website), does that mean listing these things won’t help me get in? Should I list them as something different on the common app?
That would be the definition of “Not Considered”
Work is work, and volunteer is volunteer. I don’t see how you can spin this any other way. Even if you tried, it would be very transparent to the AO what you are trying to do. Just put together the best application package that you can without trying to look for loopholes; AO’s are too experienced not to see this.
If it is on the activities list of your common app, they will consider it. Don’t worry, I think you’re just reading too much into the details. I’m sure it will help!
If it’s that life-changing, work it into your essay to be sure it’s considered. Just don’t write an essay that sounds like humble-bragging.
If you are really concerned about whether they will read it, then write it on the top of the activity list, as they certainly will not miss out on it.
