Common App and Mailing Letters

I have a problem.

When submitting all my college applications, I only listed my main home down (In USA) as I thought I would be staying there forever. However, due to family conditions, I am now residing in Asia for the next few months leading up to college decisions. So, I wouldn't receive any mail sent to my US address. As I understand some colleges still mail decision letters, I changed my common app to include my alternative address. But is it too late? Everything has already been submitted!

Additionally, I don't want to mail each school individually to explain... I feel like it's embarrassing that I didn't think of putting down my other address!

Help?

It is too late to notify schools of a change of address through common app and it’s important for them to have your current address. Don’t be embarrassed by this. You don’t need to tell them why you have a different address or when you moved or any details. Just reach out to each admissions office and let them know your current contact information.

Also, you might want someone to check the mail in the US for you at the address on your common app account every few days, if mail is still going there. We had this problem this year with our D’s applications because she, too, changed mailing addresses in the middle of the process. Only one school actually made the change of address properly upon first notice. She ended up having to check mail at the old address daily for several weeks and follow up in a number of ways with each school to be sure mail was sent to the new place.
