Common App AND UCAS?

I agree with all that has been said about matching abilities to UK requirements. If you should find yourself without offers you can use the Extra service, which I believe offers one extra choice, see www.ucas.com/?tile=tile-411. Good luck.

Well, I’m not very confident with my grades but they do meet most minimum requirements. I’m graduating with an American diploma though. I’m taking the SATs + subjects, AP and ACT so I’m hoping I do well so I could apply to them easily. But I really do fear that I get rejected by my top 5 schools which I’m applying to through UCAS.
These are the universities I’ve chosen to apply to through UCAS.

I have 7 choices so far, the other 2 are the schools I’ll apply to in case I do not get an acceptance from the 5 universities I’ve chosen.
-University of Bristol
-University of West London
-University College London
-Queen Mary University of London
-Imperial College London
-University of Birmingham (If rejected by all 5)
-Northumbria University (If rejected by all 5)

Universities I’m applying to through CommonApp:

Birmingham City University
King’s College London
Plymouth University
St Mary’s University, London
University of East London
University of Aberdeen
University of St Andrews
University of Warwick

@VickiSoCal , why do you say it’s practically impossible to be rejected by all 5 universities I may be applying to like how so?

@PurpleTitan I want to study law in the UK but the reason why I want to apply through bot is because I really do fear that I get rejected by the 5 unis in UCAS and if I apply through CommonApp some UK universities state that if I apply to their school through CommonApp and have also applied to other institutions through UCAS, I will not get an offer.
I didn’t quite get what you meant by ‘go about writing a convincing personal statement’.

@elguapo1 I understand that I am looking at it from an American pov due to the fact that I am graduating with an American diploma taking US tests such as the SATs, APs, ACT etc. In my schoool, I am enrolled in the American system/program which is why I asked if it’s possible to apply through both the UCAS and CommonApp

Because the requirements are clear. For example, for chemistry you need something like the following (with varying score levels at different schools)

Chemistry- AP scores of 5 or SAT Subject Test scores of 700 or HL IB of 6

Three other scores of AP 4 or higher or SAT 600 or higher or IB 6 including Math. Some schools also require one other Science.

So you look at that and your scores and you pretty much know. It’s not a guessing game like the US.

You are applying to way too many universities.

But I’m taking my AP’s after I’ve submitted applications. My AP’s are on May 2018
@VickiSoCal, surely I’ll be crossing out 3-5 out of the Common App list but like I said, it’s just in case I don’t get in

You will get a conditional offer. the conditional offer will be exactly what they state on the web page.

So let’s say you are taking 5 AP’s. You think you will get 55544

Apply to a school that wants 55555 that’s a big reach

Apply to one that wants 55554 that’s a small reach

Apply to three that want 55544 or lower

This is the UK way

@VickiSoCal I now understand. The UK is straightforward unlike the US. Can they withdraw the offer if I don’t get the score I expected right?

^Yes.

So applying only to schools with the requirements that @VickiSoCal listed may still be risky.

Do any require something like 444 or 333?

Are you applying to American or any non-UK schools?

BTW, why law in the UK? Are you a UK citizen or have permission to work there?

Can you take some SAT 2’s in the fall? You aren’t taking any AP’s as a junior? I would not want to go in with NO known test scores.

@PurpleTitan I study high school in Jordan, it’s easy to find a job with a law degree from the UK. I have no UK citizenship and so far I do not have ‘permission’ to work there. Not quite sure which ones have a minimum lower than a 4 or 3. I’m not applying to and US schools but I am to Canadian schools; McGill, UBC and UofT.

@VickiSoCal I’m taking SAT 2’s on June, November and December + ACT’s (4 times). I’m taking 4 SAT subjects

@VickiSoCal I signed up and paid for AP macroeconomics but I wasn’t ready for it so I cancelled it. :-<

I would not set list of schools until you have those scores.

Check to see what the entry criteria are for the Canadian Unis. I don’t believe they require AP’s.

In general, for both UK and Canadian unis, the entry requirements are pretty easy to look up, and for all but a handful of them, meeting the minimum is enough if you are a full-pay international. But they tend to be strict about having met all requirements.

Also, are there UK unis that are fine with only SAT subject scores?

What about Irish unis? I think some of them may be fine with only SAT/ACT scores and a GPA.

University of Edinburgh

All subjects in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Science and the College of Science and Engineering require completion of the High School Diploma, plus one of the following as a minimum requirement:

A successful completion of one year of University in the USA; OR

SAT score of 1290 (650 or above in Evidence Based Reading and Writing and 620 in Math) plus two APs at Grade 4; OR

SAT score of 1290 (650 or above in Evidence Based Reading and Writing and 620 in Math) plus two SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum; OR

ACT Composite score of 27 minimum plus two SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum; OR

ACT Composite score of 27 minimum plus two APs at Grade 4; OR
Three APs at Grade 4 minimum; OR

Three SAT Subject tests with 650 minimum

@klocheckmaflo I think alot of folks here have good intentions but I think you need a dose of reality. I dont think you have thought this through well enough. Imperial and St Andrews dont offer law while Aberdeen will be Scottish law, which outside Scotland will be of pretty limited usefulness. Right now I would say you have almost zero chance of any kind of offer from UCL/Kings/QMUL/Bristol/Warwick/Birmingham since you do not have the academic pedigree they are looking for. You will need to get qualifications under your belt first and that will determine where you should be applying. For the uni’s outlined above you will need at the very minimum 3 x AP’s at 5 and 28 ACT to be considered (some might take SAT II’s in lieu). Those AP’s need to be English, a History and a language would be useful, your mother tongue wont count but Latin should be fine. You can have sciences in there, it wont boost your application but it wont do you any harm either. Law is extremely competitive and those uni’s listed are among the best in the UK, the number of places for overseas students is likely to be limited. You have to have a stand out personal statement of why you want to study Law in the UK and how you expect to use your degree in the future. Dont come across as you think it might be cool to hang out in the UK for 3 years while studying Law, although to every 18 year old it’s probably the best reason. You really dont need to apply with anything else but UCAS, get your head down crack the books and get the grades. Come back next year with your results and you will be in a much better position of how to proceed. Good luck.

@elguapo1 , I totally get and understand your point. Thank you  Buuuut I’m not only applying for law but also finance so school’s such as St Andrews, Imperial or Regents, Yale NUS are different majors. I’ve taken 3 SAT subjects so far which are Math 1, English lit and Biology M all of which above 700 except for math 1 which was 690. I also took the Academic IELTS and scored an 8.0. I’m not doing my AP’s until May of 2018 but I am repeating all my SAT’s and ACT this fall and winter. When January comes, I’ll post my finals scores and hope you guys will be able to judge and advise me regarding which schools, I should truly be applying to.
But here are the tests I will be taking:
June 2017:
-SAT Literature
-SAT World history
-SAT Math 1
-ACT with writing
September 2017:
-ACT with writing
October 2017:
-SAT with essay
-ACT with writing
November 2017:
-SAT literature
-SAT Math 1
-SAT Biology M
December 2017:
-SAT literature
-SAT Math 1
-SAT world history

I’m not quite sure when I will be sitting for the IELTS UKVI or the LNAT but in 2018, I will be taking the SAT with essay on March and 3 AP’s on May which are
-AP English literature
-AP English language
-AP World history

Also, one important point is that my school does NOT offer any AP courses nor do we have teachers that are ‘qualified’ to give AP classes.

You’re taking SAT Literature and SAT Math1 3 times?

In any case, it’s easy for you to look at each uni’s website to see what they require for a course of study. Entry for law may be more uncertain than for most other courses of study at top UK unis and top UK unis for law, but for many of the unis on your list, meeting the requirements likely gets you an offer.

How would you write a personal statement that would be fit for both Law and other subjects, though?
