Common App Essay Formatting

I dont understand this thinking by the CA.

If all else fails remember the colleges know you are having this problem. I don’t think they will hold a missing paragraph break against you.

I’m having the same issue with my essay. I just found this advice on a college blog:

Format the essay in Word with no indents, single spaced, and two hard returns between paragraphs.

Copy and paste the essay into a brand new Word document.

Copy and paste that into the essay box in the CA.

Do not touch it – do not make any corrections where a sentence ends with one word on a new line and then the new sentence continued on the next line. Leave it just as it is.

Then print preview and the essay should look perfect.

I have Pages on my computer instead of Word, so I’ll have to wait until I can get to a PC. Hopefully this method works!

I am trying this bookworm. Fingers crossed. Lots of stress and tears last night when we couldn’t get this to work. For a writer, paragraph breaks are an important part of the rhythm of a piece!

They fixed it!

Yeah it’s fixed. I was able to get paragraph breaks from just copy and pasting from Microsoft word. Had to fix a little formatting in the CA, but I got the breaks.
