Common App Essay Idea

I am torn between two of the essay questions, the first one asking: Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. And the last one asking:Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

For the first question i would be using gymnastics, a sport which i started at 3 years old and what my life has revolved around since then until this past year when I had to get surgery. Gymnastics is really my passion and has made me who I am today. However i am worried that the sport essays are too cliche!

The last question I thought would make me stand out a bit more. The event i would be writing about is going back to China for the first time since i was adopted and meeting my foster mom.

Both of these topics, it seems to me, are an extremely important part of who you are, but I kind of like the second idea more; it’s definitely unique.

The second one, for sure!

I don’t know if this will be any help, but if you have the time (and energy), why not write out both? Then you can see which one you wrote or like better. :slight_smile: If I had to choose one though, I would say the second one because like the others have said, it’s more original. Good luck!
