An English teacher who I have talked to thinks that I should write about having mono. First, I am a technically a senior, but this is my junior year so I'm graduating a year early. I had mono 2nd semester of last year, and I missed the entire fourth quarter of school. I had a couple ER trips and still maintained above a 3.5, but I did receive my first B's on my high school transcript. I got behind but am all caught up now.

Would this be a good topic to write about? I'm skeptical because I don't want to sound like I'm whining, but she thought it would be a good idea cause it would show my determination, etc.

please anyone this is rather important

… Anyone

Just my two cents… I think maybe that would be something to put in an “Additional Information” section. Unless you can write really eloquently about having an enlarged spleen, it might not be such a great essay topic… though then again, it could be unusual. Just don’t feel that you have to write your essay about it so that the admissions people know why you got B’s. You can tell them that another way, if you’d rather.

This isn’t to explain why I got B’s. My GPA is my strongest positive factor for most of my colleges. This is a uhh, despseration. I have very little time and can’t think of a topic to write about. I have excellent resources at my hands… I just don’t know what to write on.

I see how the topic is good and bad. But overall, I’m not that fond of it. Mono is not that bad, and while it was sortve traumatic and i had my problems, I got over it. I think its good though showing that I am able to rebound and still am graduating a year early.

I don’t know what to write about. But, this is the best topic so far I guess.

If you don’t like the topic or feel that passionate about it, it’ll probably show when you write about it. An essay about mono could be fantastic or terrible; what makes an essay good is not the topic but the way you write about it. I think the most important thing to do is to be sincere and honest. The most unique and interesting stories are always the ones that are true.
