Why would it be consistent? That would be just too easy, right? I've checked the two due for my kid. One says due by November 1st. One says apply by November 1st. I say call the 31st. They stay up late chuckling about doing this stuff to us , don't they? Watching the little lab rats scurrying around. I feel like I'm part of a Skinner or Pavlov inspired experiment. Jeez. Doesn't take much to make me react.

pyewacket - My experience is as anxiousmom says, but several schools told me, and I really believe most all schools follow the: "main app must meet the stated deadline rule", ie send in (or press Submit on your online app) by the required date. If a rec, score,hs package etc. comes in after that, it's ok. I would certainly try to get the student-submitted supplement in bythe initial deadline, but there might even be some flex on that. wouldn't count on it, but don't worry about the school submitted stuff.

Yeah, jmmom-but what does "the stated deadline rule" really say?

"Deadline to apply is November 1st." Received by 11/1? or postmarked 11/1?

"November 1st-Application for undergraduate admission due." Received by 11/1? or postmarked 11/1?

Oh, I definitely agree about that craziness. You have to check the details on each web site/app package and if you're lucky, they clarify. If not, you've got to call.

To me, this is all right up there with how every car has the windshield wiper/headlight thingies in a different place. ?????

I'm with Xiggi on this one, overnight aint' worth it, but I definitely would not use the postal service - their 'guaranteed' delivery just means that your package will likely be late, and you'll make another trip to the PO to claim your refund. UPS or Fedex saver delivery earns you a tracking number and receipt of delivery.

I also remember one of the admission 'books' stating that: a) overnite was not necessary; b) they really don't even look at the postmark very often since the USPS drops off literally bags of apps with every day for the next few days. Thus, the clerks/interns in the mail room start a massive file service. If I recall, the author even said for his/her school, it was better to take an extra day to polish the essay.....but, not sure I can get that brazen.

BUT, the CB site is extremely clear: the PROFILE must be submitted by Nov 1 eastern time. Otherwise, the system shuts off at midnight, eastern time.

bluebayou,
I'm starting to get really paranoid now. You mean the CB deadline is November 1 if the college application deadline is Nov.1. Otherwise you have until Dec.13, right?

pw:

I apologize if my post was alarming. The CB website says that it is school-specific, so if a school has a Nov 1 deadline, CB will not transmit after midnight.

Actual dates depends on the school -- definitely check the school FinAid websites. ED deadline maybe different than EA. Don't forget to check when '04 tax forms need to be mailed in, if any.

I would just put GC stuff in an envelope and be done with it. If you feel you must have a sig on the envelope, I'd put the papers in an envelope, don't seal it, catch the GC when she has 10 seconds, and have her seal and sign the envelope. I wouldn't let those papers out of your hands, now that you have them.
