Hi,

My D recently Facebook messaged one of her friends her Common APP Id by accident since she thought it had been overwritten with a different copy-paste. Is there any danger of her friend knowing her Common App ID?

Isn’t there also a password to get into the common app?

I suppose the friend could use it to email admission officers and sabotage her college chances. However, they’ll probably be wary if her friend doesn’t use the email associated with the Common App. Personally, I don’t think it’s a big deal, but you can never be too sure I suppose.

Most deadlines have passed, so no-one could mess with anything via the common application, even if they knew her password.

In any case, the friend would just see a 7-digit number somewhere in their chat and not know what it meant? It could be someone’s phone number, right? Or a kid brother typing in some gobbledy-gook. No need to reveal what it actually was.

Worst case: that someone would call up a school that she had applied to, using her name and Common Application ID to get information, or give misinformation. But I doubt a friend would do that.

She accidentally copy pasted a update email to an admissions officer which explicitly stated the number. Otherwise, they are good childhood friends!
