Common App "Upload Document": .PDF or .DOC?

Which format should I use when uploading supplemental essays and such?

PDF better retains my formatting and ensures that we both see it the same way. I would rather use PDF.

DOC might be more widely used and guarantees they will be able to open in.

What are your thoughts? What do you use?

“DOC might be more widely used and guarantees they will be able to open in.”

I’m pretty sure that opening a pdf wouldn’t be too much of a challenge for them :P

If you’d rather use pdf, use pdf.

You can upload any common document format - everything is converted to PDF by the Common App Online system when you upload it.

really? thanks I didn’t know that. so would it re-convert my pdf or just leave it alone?

It will optimize it and make sure it’s a good file (not corrupt), but it should basically look unchanged from the version on your computer.
