Is using the create your own question frowned upon and can it hurt your chances? I know someone who used their own prompt and got into Harvard so in my opinion I would say no, but does anyone have an opinion on this? (The girl I know also had a perfect act so it may have been a bad example.) My essay idea was to use a prompt about a quote and pick a quote from my grandfather's novel. I talked about my family and upbringing in the essay. The novel isn't famous but fantastically written so is it a unique idea or do you think it could hurt me?
