Hi there, for starters, I’m an atheist. I plan on choosing this essay “Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?” and was wondering if it is appropriate to write about how I questioned religion and the existence of god and the process of me becoming an atheist (debating with others etc etc) as there is a lot of oppression in my country and also in my family.
Yes, but be careful.
My guess is that this is probably a topic you feel strongly about.
You have only 600 words. Be sure that the essay is about YOU, and not about religious oppression.
You need to show them that you would be a good addition to their campus, not to educate them about an issue you feel strongly about.
Keep in mind, this is not a unique idea. I am sure ADCOMS have seen this over and over again. So think about how it can be made uniquely your’s and how you can make it super interesting. You don’t want the ADCOM to read the first line and say, okay, “another one of these.”
I think if you’ve resolved the hard problem of consciousness, and can explain it in 600 words, then they’d be impressed
The genral rule is to avoid this kind of topic. But, if you can make it compelling reading, and keep the focus on you, then give it a shot. You should ask for feedback from an adult with experience before you hit submit though.
