I have started my CommonApp a few weeks ago and I have not yet submitted it. However I got an email from one of the colleges thanking me of having added that school in my list of colleges in the application.
I therefore wonder what kind of information does the CommonApp provide to colleges and when ? Do they also inform the colleges about all the other colleges I am applying to ?
Also, would they tell all the colleges which one I applied early ? If so, this could hurt my chances to get admission in another college.
Is there a place where the CommonApp precisely states what info it discloses ?

The Privacy Policy that you agree to when you register informs you that certain information will be shared with colleges you put on your My Colleges list. This practice allows these colleges to keep you informed of information pertaining to their admission processes. That said, NO INFORMATION IS SHARED AMONG THE COLLEGES THEMSELVES.

You can read the Privacy Policy by clicking the link at the bottom of any page within your Common App Online account.

Let’s keep this in perspective - the data that Common App member colleges have access to prior to submission of an application is only basic identifying information. This is the same information you might provide to the college if you fill out an interest card at a college fair or complete an online “Add me to the mailing list” form. There is nothing nefarious going on here.

The Common App does not disclose which colleges are on your list or to which colleges you have submitted an application to any other colleges.

They do. Students can choose to opt-in or opt-out of communications/information sharing at the time of registration, and they can change this decision at any time by clicking the “Update Account” link that appears at the top of each page within their account.
