This is a question for current students...what's the community like at Wellesley? Is it warm and inviting (everybody's a family, etc.) or is it more on the cold side?

The reason I ask is that I've visited Mt Holyoke and the community seemed so nice and welcoming. But I've heard Wellesley students can be less than friendly, and I realized I don't know anything firsthand. This is my biggest reservation with Wellesley, so please tell me good things!

It depends on what dorm you end up in, but there's a great sense of community in general. As always, the best way to find a group of people you really enjoy being with is to join an organization. Spring Open Campus will give you plenty of opportunities to meet many of the orgs.

I liked the people, there. I thought it was a friendly, inviting atmosphere that didn't try to discourage students from setting goals and achieving them, whether those goals were academic, professional, or social. Every year (or semester), someone posts a message online to the effect of, "Why don't people smile at each other when they're walking around campus?" But smiling at people you don't know just isn't The New England Way ;)

It's not always warm fuzzies and confetti, but the community is open, aware, and supportive.

Ditto. ringer, you have great and honest answers to our questions. Thank you!
