i have no idea where to ask this question, so i decided to ask it here.
what's the benefit of going to community college first then transfer to good university? If i go to community college, i only have to work hard on my GPA? or what else? I did really bad during high school year, and i want to go to UIUC for engineering. i got 16xx for SAT and 3.1 for GPA....... plz help

You already know one of the benefits of a community college -- if your GPA/test scores are not good enough to get into UIUC engineering now, CC gives you the chance to do so after two years of college because then admission will depend on your college GPA not your high school record or SAT. However, there is no guarantee you will be admitted to UIUC later. Also, if your intent is apply later to UIUC, or any other college, after two years of CC, you must do your research of those colleges now, or at least before you sign up for your first semester classes at the CC, as to what will be required for that transfer. For example, UIUC engineering requires you to have completed certain courses to be considered as a transfer, including the usual math and science courses that UIUC engineering freshman and sophomores take.

Another benefit of a CC is cost. You are usually staying at home and the total cost is a lot less than going away to college -- good for those who cannot afford all 4 years of college or don't want to take out loans to fund college (at least for two years)
