I've noticed that some people seem to only do community service for the sake of being able to put it on their college apps.

How many of you guys actually plan on continuing to do sincere community service after high school?

i do. community service is fun....

I do as well. Community service is a necessity that people need to continue once out of high school.

I do. Being an active citizen is important. Not to mention that youth really need a voice, and what better way than to get active? Nobody is going to listen to a lazy bum!
Apathy sucks and you know it!!!!

I don't even do community service to put on my college application.

I will continue doing CS.

I did community service in middle school too and I certainly wasn't thinking about college then. I would continuing doing community service that they offer here but they're mostly involving kids and I'm not good with kids.

If I have lots of spare time, why not.

Certainly would give me something to do over the summer in college if I couldn't find a job. I truly do enjoy volunteering at the hospital...So many interesting people you meet even though the contact could be just 5 minutes. One person I wheeled around was a WWII veteran and participated in bombing Japan! (Okay, well, the bombing part isn't cool but actually meeting him was)

i am..its the only thing that keeps me connected to the city as a whole..a lot of the times..and its nice..:)..and fun like someone already said...theres a lot we can do for our community

Honestly the only thing I put on my app for college was student counsil senior year. I couldn't stand helping out with all those dumb high school stuff and senior activities. Now that I'm guilty for. But I got to sit up in the second row at graduation.

I just finished my first semester in college, and I've definitely continued community service. There are sooo many opportunities if you're really motivated. I've gotten involved in Circle K, Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, a program that works with special needs kids on the weekend.

i am in an international service club, so it's not a reason of college apps or not.

braces self for some eyes-rolling

I have pretty much devoted the next 14 years to community service.

at my school, at the end of this semester I will become a brother of Alpha Phi Omega, which is a coed fraternity that does community service.

First, I did it because of the apps.
Now, I love it so much! I have learnt so many new skills.

My 1st cs: playing with little kids. I USED TO HATE LITTLE KIDS. Now i think they are adorable! I must've been pretty stiff and cold to them on my first day.. now I love kids and i think they love me too lol.

I've done bunch of other stuffs because it feels good to help out people!
Now I love helping out people and charities and learning new skills! My parents do not understand my affection for CS though.. they think it's a waste of time :(

I started in 'real' community service when I was in 5th grade, and at the time I had not established its connection with college applications(obviously). It's just something to do to feel helpful so I'm sure I'll continue after high school.

I did a little, then I stopped (I tend to feel passionate and then it dies down) but I'm hoping I can have some better oppurtunities once I get to college that won't bore me
