how important is community service in the eyes of an admissions officer

i guess if you have ridiculously large number of hours, it could get edge you in...

but if you have very little or next to none (like me), would that be a severe disadvantage when compared to someone who has an average number of hours.......

^i dont know how much sense that para just made, but im trying to guage in terms of ECs how important community service is

Community service is not an important criteria for most colleges. Those that do care probably care more about what the applicant has accomplished through CS than how many hours they have logged.

Even at the most selective colleges, CS is not of overriding importance if the applicant has other meaningful ECs.

as long as you do have other meaningful ECs, it's not a big deal. Plus, if you only have a few community service hours, it just looks like your padding your application.
