community service

Does NYU care much about your community service? I have done some, but that much. I'm working on it though.

On a certain extent, community service is important depending on what school. If you are uncertain, check out its website or mayb call the school.

I think they do care about it a lot.

One of their personal statements/short answer questions is centered on community service. They want to see what kind of visionary person you can be through cs.

they do but keep in mind that almost if not everyone has it too so it all comes down to grades and test scores as well the essays

LastHeadline,
I totally disagree.
while everyone's spent a day at the animal shelter here and there, nearly no one has spent a significant amount of their time working for the same organization year after year.
Adcoms are not stupid, they can tell the difference between what an average kid trying to pad their resume has done, and what someone who cares about their community on a deeper level has done.

If service is indeed important to them, they will almost definitely always favor the latter child.

Yup, I agree with hannah.

It shows dedication, perseverance, an interest in something not totally academic, attempts to do good, etc. In my opinion, they will always choose the latter person, as educating the scholars of tomorrow also means shaping students to be morally/ethically sound. I dont think a school would be so proud as to have a super smart, but jackassish student who ultimately becomes, say, a spy for some random country...but I diverge. XD.

Oh geez. It looks like I have a lot of work to do.
That makes sense though.
I just don't want to do it because I need it, I want to do it because I want to. Which I do.

find something you're interested in.
I've done more than 1,000 hours, and it feels like nothing, because i've found something that I really enjoy. :-)
