Commuting to Stony Brook V.S. Marist College

So I would really like some opinions on this. I plan on majoring in computer science and I know stony brook is really great for this major but I know by staying home and commuting I wouldn’t get to experience the college life. However, I could graduate Stony Brook debt free while I would be in $50,000 deep graduating from Marist. My social life would also be pretty boring by staying home and from the people I’ve spoken to it seems like the SBU campus is really dead. I’m really not sure which school to choose.

My D will be attending SBU this fall and commuting. She will also be graduating debt free. She will buy a car instead. There are a lot of commuters and even people who dorm tend to go home on the weekends. You will make friends and plan things off campus. There is a lot more freedom and independence being a computer. In addition, it’s a highly rated school! She turned down NYU and George Washington. Both offered large scholarships but would still come out with debt!

I know I’m biased, but if you have the opportunity to get your bachelors degree debt-free or close to it, PLEASE DO THAT. PLEASE.

How much would it cost for you to live at SB? I went to a school within commuting distance from my home, but lived away for the experience. Trust me, even if a lot of people leave on the weekend, there will be more than enough that stay on campus to hang out with. SB is also a much better school than Marist, so I vote no debt!
