Compare Engineering Schools rank vs. salary - weird, any explanation?

raevsky,

you have some funky data, or really old…

I suspect the errors I’m seeing is data from other USNEWS

I suspect it is just an elitist kid who doesn’t want to admit that he can get a great education from a cheaper school.

There was a thread on here that shows what schools that hiring managers target and the list was made up of mostly state schools.

Here’s the thread:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/engineering-majors/569439-college-has-best-connection-nasa-lockheed-boeing.html

Heres an excerpt by rogracer:

“I’m a hiring manager for Lockheed, so I can help you out a bit. We have 27 schools on our “key school” list and about 50 others on our “target school” list…these are the schools we most heavily recruit at…it is not just the top 5 or 10 commonly mentioned on these boards. I will also mention your individual accomplishments in school (GPA, breadth of class work, skill-set, projects, internships, coops, interviews) are far more important than the school listed on your diploma. The same is true of all major aerospace companies I might add.”

raevsky,

average/median starting salary for chem E at Wisconsin is 61k/63k…compare this with the numbers you suggested before for U.Wisc…

the numbers you’re reading in this post are from the University

Why are some people more concerned about the money than the love for what they do?

@aGGieENGINeeR:
Because:
1/ Some people dont have enough resources to follow what they love.
2/ Some people do not live for themselves only: they have a family to take care of.
I guess you’ve never lived in a condition when filling your stomach is your top priority. Some Americans never understand how blessed they are…

I’m pretty sure I do understand how blessed I am.

I believe that with enough hard work any barrier can be overcome. There have been plenty of success stories of people coming from hard backgrounds that ended up very successful. Therefore, to say you don’t have the resources is an excuse.

Do not tell me that I am selfish. I spend enough time in my community helping at outreaches and churches to understand that there are people who have it a lot more difficult than I do.

I guess I am just lucky to be able to have a choice about what I want to pursue. It is a crying shame that not everyone can have that opportunity.

@aGGieENGiNeeR:
Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you. It’s great for you to realize that not everyone can pursue what they’re interested in.

Aren’t we talking about the difference between ME and ChemE here? The last time I checked a career in either field would take care of an empty stomach - thus, doing what you have more passion for isn’t necessarily the kind of advice you made it out to be. The mere fact that it’s even a question of which makes more money implies that they’re both similar enough to base your decision on something other than money.

SORRY for that interruption…

I am a new member and that was my first post.So you can execuse me for that>>>

AND well i was expecting a better reply!!!

Then make your own thread about it…

WELL now i know it!!!

But still thanks for your info…
