I am guessing that a lot of us are choosing between or have chosen between some of the same schools. I'm curious what schools you are deliberating between or what choices you have made.

For example, I am looking at both the University of Arizona (nearly full ride) and Northeastern University (full tuition).

Are you a senior?

Have you visited both schools?

What is your major?

I am a senior and have visited both schools. I liked them both, though they were very different. I am considering a BME major, which NEU only offers as a minor (and UA offers as a major, which is great, because this is relatively uncommon), but my major is very subject to change, so I don’t really want to make my decision entirely off of that. (I chose BME because I want to study biology and want to be an engineer. Logical, right? Except that even BME majors don’t seem to take that many interesting biology classes, from what I have seen.) I also want to minor in French or German (which is what scares me from Northeastern. I don’t think I can have an engineering major and two minors. But I love the coop program!)

Will you be coming in with AP Credits?

What is your career goal?

I wouldn’t worry too much about the BME degree if your goal is grad school or med school. Often a student can work around that with a MechE degree and extra bio classes or a bio minor.

And, don’t worry about getting a minor in a foreign language. you can just take classes…if you complete the minor, then fine. If you don’t, no big deal. Minors often require taking literature classes in the language which may not be your interest. you may just want to be very fluent.

maybe23… I’m an EE, my recommendation is to consider picking EE, ME, or ChemE instead of BME. Then minor in Biology. BME is too narrow for finding employment after graduation with a BS degree. You can go get an MS in BME if you want for grad school. ChemE would let you work in Pharma too.

I chose BME of all engineering majors because I love biology more than because of the career (bad idea, I know). So your idea of another major with a biology minor sounds like a good one (and I would probably get more “fun” biology classes that way).

Thanks for the reminder that I don’t need a foreign language major. I forget that that does include things like literature classes. Although the idea of taking classes entirely in French sounds great, the idea of taking more literature classes is not so pleasant. My goal is fluency, not a diploma, so if that is better without the minor, then that might be what I’ll do.

I’ve taken a few AP classes and gotten decent scores, but I’m not sure how many I will choses to use.
