Competition at Cal and UCLA

Hey I was wondering how a regular day was for a student at Berkely and UCLA. Well, I've heard that some of the competition at these two schools can get vicious, as if you're competiting every day. Does this affect anybody? I love Cal, and I'm not the most competitive student so I don't know how I would cope with these type of schools.

its competetive, but not outright like at hopkins. but underneath, every student knows that they have to outdo the rest. i think the best policy is to set standards and reach them without worrying about what other ppl are doing.

i'm at UCLA. it HEAVILY depends on which major youre doing.

pre-med can be bad. a couple other majors are competitive as well, like comm studies (to enter) or bizecon.

overall i'm enjoying college. i dont feel like there's an extreme form of competition or anything. like i dont go to bed everyday thinking "wow i need to keep up with classmate A or i need to screw classmate B over or wow classmate C gave me the wrong answers today."

i think UCLA is just like normal college actually. challenging, sometimes competitive, but not cutthroat.

Yeah competition at UCLA definitely depends on the department.

I definitely hear the horror stories about crazy bio competition or whatever, but over in comm we're all veeeeerrrrrry friendly and our curves generally don't require use to compete with each other.

There have been several occasions on which I've felt my community college classes we're more difficult than the stuff I'm doing at UCLA. Which is good and bad. But overall, yeah, my experience (taking my field into consideration, obviously) hasn't been very intense. At all.

Well I'm looking to pursue a career in engineering, so it probably would be competitive for me

can somebody give more detail about the competition at hopkins premed?

You spelled Berkeley wrong, AND you are from San Francisco.

Okay and? Oh my God not everybody's an excellent speller
