Competitiveness of Ivy League liberal arts degrees in the job market

Hi everyone. I want to eventually go to law school, but would like to have a competive undergrad degree in the job market if I decide not to get a postgraduate degree. If I’m lucky enough to get into an Ivy league or top 20 school, does it really matter what specifically my major is if I’m set on pursuing some sort of liberal arts degree? My passion is political science, but a specific interest of mine in political economy, so I’d be willing to major in economics if it has better job prospects. Is a degree from one of these top universities more important than the actual major itself in terms of being competitive job applicant (in addition to internships and networking of course)? Thanks

If you’re just talking about any job, then no, not really. I’ve seen elite college graduates with majors in all kinds of fields get excellent post-college jobs. Sometimes they end up doing management consulting and investment banking, which are common destinations, but they can do lots of other things also.

However, an economics major might make you more competitive for some specific kinds of jobs; conversely, a political science major might also make you more attractive for some specific kinds of jobs.
