Are you sure there aren’t actually APs? My high school says the same thing about themselves. Technically, there aren’t AP courses because the teachers don’t have to stick to the AP syllabus. However, in reality, Advanced Chemistry is AP Chemistry, Advanced US History is APUSH, etc. It is true that there are no AP Englishes (or even advanced Englishes), but the school does adequately prepare students to take both English APs and many do (including myself, two 5s, little studying). I just find it unlikely that there are no levels of classes.

The school decides if you take honors and AP classes based on a test you take in 8th grade. So, lets say you do great in an regular class you can’t take an honor or AP. You can’t choose to take them the school gives you those classes.

You have to take 4yrs of gym and religion.

at my school:
you can’t take AP classes as a freshman or sophomore
you are limited to 3 AP’s each junior and senior year (we offer like 16 though so that doesn’t really make sense)
they waste our time with classes like “technology” and “SAT prep”

the way our classes are weighted is stupid. like there is a 3 point difference between honors and ap and ap is significantly harder, so our top students are usually kids who take honors and not ap

like practically everyone from my old school had to retake algebra 1 freshman year … luckily i did well on the placement test and got to take alg 2 and trig

You have to take ap macro and ap government together. You can’t pick and choose which you want to take. Its either they’re both ap or they are nov.

We don’t have APs, honors, anything (“everything is rigorous” – but you can take advanced language if you’re proficient LOL), and everyone takes the same courses, which can be both a blessing and a curse.

1) A total of 2 AP classes offered. US History and AB Calc. Rather limited.
2) No honors.
3) Have to take four years of PE unless you are an athlete or in band.

@CranberryOrange :Yes, i am sure. No students from that school ever take AP tests unless they self study them and they follow a curriculum separate from those of the college board.

My math thing. Apparently in 6th grade in my state there was a test for a math level. Guess who came to the state after 6th grade and got put in a lower level?

IB. So restrictive.

They ***** about you taking AP Exams out of course, and there’s only 1 AP per year at my school.

Math. After that 6th grade thing, they never let you move up, and the summer school only allows rising 9th graders to take alg 1.

Foreign language, I was taking Latin and French in Middle school, and my new school said I couldn’t take a language in 7th grade.

“We don’t have APs, honors, anything (“everything is rigorous” – but you can take advanced language if you’re proficient LOL), and everyone takes the same courses, which can be both a blessing and a curse.”

I have an extremely strong feeling we are both talking about Regis

In my school, the Sports Medicine class is “apparently” only for “cool people.” There’s this bully who tells me “don’t take Sports Med, that class is hard,” but he chooses to advance in Sports Med and he probably tells the teacher to kick me out.

1) Limited APs… We have your “core” ones like English Lang and World, but we don’t have things like Chem, Micro, Physics C, AB… It’s good I guess but I want to be able to take as many diverse classes as possible.

2) No useful classes… no finances, no home ec, none of that.

3) You have to pass a PE test or you have to take PE again the next year… PE here isn’t too bad (it’s a bit of fun), but it’s annoying and makes you tired. I got mine at the end of the day, luckily.

4) Only two weighted class credits soph year/semester, none freshman year. One of my teachers who decided on that policy said it’s to “make sure you continue exploring the world.” In reality it just stops me from taking honors =X

5) Honors weighted same as AP… Some are equal, many are not. It’s not fair IMO, but that’s life.

6) You have to take Macro and Gov’t together…

7) Says it focuses on academics but it really is just any other school.

8) Bilingual programs are limited. I was in one 9th grade and it almost stopped me from taking AP World.

AP chem is “recommended” to be taken after Honors, instead of just covering all the material in 1 year.
Otherwise it’s awesome, you can take AP’s as a freshman (I took Human Geo, Physics B and Calc BC), you can take 6 AP (maximum amount of classes) if you want, if you take 3 ap tests, you get a 4th one free
Damn it feels good to be gangsta

Also, no restrictions whatsoever on AP classes, one of my friends failed freshman and sophomore english, he’s smart, but doesn’t apply himself, and he’s taking like AP Chem, Gov and Stats next year…
He’s taken 3 ap classes so far and passed all of them
