Completely lost

I have no idea what to do first if I attend UCSC this fall. Firstly, can someone break down my financial aid package and tell me what each is and whether the loans are subsidized or not. What is the next thing I should do such as registering for the writing exam and details on it such as location and purpose. Finally, what should I do after that on how to prepare such as housing and such.

Hi, Sinvid, my son is going to Santa Cruz in the fall and I’ve been researching stuff for him.

–You need to choose five colleges that you would like to be in and rank them in order.
–Then you need to submit your SIR on your my USCS portal, you may need to make a deposit or considering your financial aid package maybe it will be waived, I’m not sure.
–Then you need to sign up for summer orientation. It’s a little extra money but I think it’s worth it in terms of getting to register for your classes early.
–You need to accept the portions of your financial aid package on the portal that you want. I believe you can pick and choose the portions that you want, but please, someone who knows correct me if I’m wrong because I would like to know too.
–Not sure about the subsidized/unsubsidized loan breakdown, but obviously the one that says it’s unsubsidized, is :). I’m guessing the parent one would be too, but just guessing.
–Looks like you should be taking the math placement exam online right now: Monday, April 23, 2012 through Sunday, May 6, 2012. There are also language placement exams, check the UCSC website.
–The Universitywide Analytical Writing Placement Exam (AWPE) is administered statewide every year in May. You can find more instructions on it here. It’s to determine whether you have passed some of the general ed writing requirements.
