Completely lost.

I have asked for much advice on my college search before, but now suddenly i find myself starting from the beginning...i have the one school that i really, really want to go to (UChicago - match/reach) and one state school that i'll probably get in to (UMichigan - match/safety, instate). But other than these two, i am completely lost. Here's what i'm looking for:

-A research university that is somewhat well-known, esp to employers, pretty close to a city (like Chicago or any other major city), must have an EXCELLENT PHYSICS DEPARTMENT with respected and accessible faculty, and must have a good-looking and comfortable-feeling campus with a good sense of comunity.

Based on those criteria, and assuming i have the stats and everything to have a good chance getting into Chicago, can anyone suggest a couple schools that i could look into in addition to UChi and Michigan?

Columbia fits that description.

decided to cut out the msg ...
