Completing Minors

How long does it generally take to complete a minor?
Would it be possible to complete one with in the first couple of semesters and then focus on a second one?
If people double minor do they usually work on both at the same time?

In reality, minors are useless. Do not get a minor for the sake of getting one. Get one because of personal interest.

In terms of scheduling, you can determine how to work a minor. You will be constricted by classes you actually have to take and prerequisites, but if you just need to complete a certain amount of requirements, however you choose.

You can just work on a minor for an entire semester or work on both minors at the same point, though I would advise against it.

The number of classes you have to take to finish a minor varies greatly by the type of minor it is.

I would suggest figuring out if you actually like your major choice and think about backup major choices before you think about minors. Only get a minor if you’re taking a class and something interests you.

Minors can be helpful. For example, statistics and computer science are fields where some coursework can open entirely new career options and one does not need a full blown major to get a foot in the door. Language minors can be useful too (and who wants to take all of those literature classes required for the major?)

Though I do agree that most students complete minors because they develop an interest in an area outside of their major, not necessarily for the career benefits.

My school requires that those in the liberal arts school have a minor or a double major.

Minors usually are 18-24 credits, so around 6-8 classes. Usually you can complete a double minor. Depends on how intense your major is.
