Complex transfer situation Rutgers-NB

Hi all,

So the situation that I have put myself into is very complex and will require the greatest amounts of effort. Before starting off, I must add that since the spring of my senior year in high school, things were starting to go downhill but I never addressed them until I felt I absolutely had to this new year (during my sophomore year of college). The things I’m talking about are experimenting with drugs that led to dependency and depression over time, around the beginning of the summer before my freshman year of college. Most people would not become dependent so to speak, but at the same time I stopped my ADD medication which I believe allowed me to fall into that sort of trap, but that’s just the explanation for these occurrences; I have since turned them around, am back on the medication, seeing a devoted counselor, and love going to school now drug free. Here is my academic situation:

High School GPA: 3.2
SATS: 1800

Freshman year of College(Rowan University):
First semester(2.48)
Second semester(1.68)

Transferred to another school(Ramapo College) because what I was feeling internally, I believed had to do with my external surroundings(clouded judgement), plus I had friends there and I thought it would fix these things
First semester(2.35)

So then I was faced with the fact that I have to change things about myself back to the way they were before I fell into this trap, before I destroy my entire future, so I transferred into Middlesex County College to save money and start off fresh. I changed my major from computer science to finance as that was always my plan B because that was my original interest since I was 15; I’m loving it so far, and with a clear head I might add. I plan on being here for 3 semesters to receive my associate’s (currently in my first semester) so my question is this:

Despite all the damage I have caused for myself academically, is there still a chance that I can transfer into Rutgers-New Brunswick with almost perfect grades, after say my third semester of being here(my gpa would be around a 2.88, because at the time of transfer I’ll only be able to provide 2 out of 3 of those semesters; and including the other colleges)? The schools in New-Brunswick I would apply to are the business school(long long shot) and school of arts and sciences (eventually would transfer into RBS).

Thank you for your time, and sorry for such a long read.

In other words, when they receive my transcripts, traditionally do they look at them cumulatively, or do they only really care about recent grades, i.e the Associate’s degree which would be 1 semester from completion during application

Doesn’t seem possible at this point with that low of a GPA. They will want to see all of your transcripts cumulatively.

What’s the rush?

Your primary focus should now be on staying better. Your secondary focus should be on good performance on where you are. Hope is good and so is fear. Once the first two foci are taken care of, the rest will fall into place.

You’ve been stung, so I would avoid even thinking about going near the beehives until you know your antibodies have been restored. Time is good, too.

Loved that perspective :slight_smile: @SpacemanEd
