I’m committed to a college and received financial aid awards but my file was selected for the “federal processor”… My parents are divorced and I live with my dad but my dad is unable to work (all of this was marked in my FAFSA and other forms), so we receive money for rent and other things from my grandparents. My grandparents nor my dad keep exact numbers, should I just the college to mark my mother as custodial? Because she has an income and tax returns, etc… Any extra forms asked for would be easier to get if they come from her.
You live with your dad. He is your custodial parent. Your dad and your grandparents can figure out how much money has been spent. If your dad has no other source of income, then your grandparents must be payong all of the rent and expenses. Surely there are records for the rent and utility bills. For groceries you can make an estimate based on what was spent this past month or so.
For details on how to put his all together, contact the financial aid office and ask. Also, send a PM to kelsmom. @kelsmom is a financial aid officer. She should also have some ideas for you.
