Composition In California Schools

I Want To Majored In Composition( CONTEMPORARY MOSTLY ) And Wondering If There Are Good Schools In California For Composition.

Give Cal Arts a try . And check out their new "Red Cat" space at the Disney
Center.

USC has a great composition program with Frank Ticheli on faculty. However it is very competetive to get in to.

i also have the same concerns. i am a transfer student looking to study classical composition/music technology at a university in cali. USC is a great school but I don't know if I can afford it. I am also thinking about double majoring with anthropology.

can anybody suggest a school with decent music program, and affordable tuition??

also i want to double major as my backup. i think people who succeed in music are talented, and not because of education or degree. what do you think?

tuition depending....

Redlands
UCSB (CCS)
UCSD
USC
UOP
Cal Poly SLO, new resources
Humboldt State

and probably others like Northridge...I don't have information on that.

UC Berkeley (especially for electronic music -- CNMAT)
UCLA (including film music)

USC I'd say has by far the best program in CA for composition; anyone interested in composition should at least apply there regardless of tuition costs. It's probably the only school that could stack up against composition depts in the East or Midwest.

USC, UCSD, calarts, UCB, UCLA, Stanford
