So I sent out my scores and was invited for an interview to Boston Conservatory, San Francisco Conservatory, CCM, North Carolina School of the Arts, and the University o Wisconsin-Madison School of Music. I was rejected by Eastman. My question is, how many composition students do such schools invite for interviews of the applicants they receive? I am just curious as to how close I am to getting in to/ not getting into these schools.

That is a very hard question to answer because the numbers can vary considerably from school to school and from year to year even at the same school. The talent level of the competition for the available spots and the number of people who apply can vary a good bit as well.

I would say that getting invited to continue the process at five of six very good schools is a positive sign, however.

I agree with BassDad. So much is variable within every year's applicant mix at each individual school. Some years can be extremely difficult, with exceptional talent pools.

The invitation is one hurdle cleared. Unfortunately, it's not over till it's over.

Good luck.

Are you just doing interviews at these schools, or will your visits include theory or other tests, composition assignments, or some other composition "audition" activity? Just curious, have a daughter in similar situation...Good luck!
