Computational Mathematics Sciences major at ASU???

Hi everyone I am interested in Comp Math Sciences offered at ASU. I heard ASU is a great school for CS/IT and tech stuff, plus its campus is pretty close to my house. I like Math and computer, but I don’t think I can do well in CS. I don’t like IT because it involves lots of database/network courses (I took Intro to LAN network class and fell asleep). So I’m considering Comp Math as a major. I was wondering if it’s strong enough when it comes to courses, and will the program give me wide variety of jobs if I do undergrad?

Here’s the the course info and its major map:
https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/majorinfo/ASU00/LACMSBS/undergrad/false
https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/roadmaps/ASU00/LACMSBS/null/ALL/2015

Sorry for my bad English though.

The program’s perfectly fine and you won’t have a problem getting a job. There’s a lot of overlap with CS though, so I’m concerned about why you don’t think you’d do well in CS.

Thank you! But I doubt there’s a lot of overlap with CS, actually the program only has 3 CS courses, and they are pretty basic. Correct me if am wrong though.

A lot of the MAT classes I’m seeing would be included as requirements for a traditional CS degree. (MAT 342, 343, 243, 300, 420, 421.) That’s what I was referring to when I said there was overlap, although I wasn’t clear about it.

If you don’t think you’ll have problems with those MAT classes, go for it.

Oh I see. I think you were right. Those MAT classes are req for CS degree.

Thank you a lot for your help
