My daughter has been accepted to this program and I would like to hear from current/former students and/or parents of such students on their thoughts on this program and school. I know that this is a fairly new program (6 yrs, I think). We went to a presentation and I was impressed. They emphasize internship but it’s usually done in the summers. I think internships or co-ops are important real work experiences students should have to test drive their career choice and potential employers.
Any thoughts on the school itself? It’s a public school and must deal w/ public funding. Has there been cut backs? We are OOS so our final cost will be considerably higher. She only got a $6,000/yr merit scholarship which doesn’t put much of a dent in the OOS tuition we have to pay.
My S was also accepted to this program and we are OOS too. He is considering Mason as well as two other colleges. We went to the admitted student’s day yesterday and I believe his view of Mason and that major improved considerably. My S received 4k per year in merit so I agree it is still costly. We don’t know much about the program other than what we have read online or heard in the presentation at the college. My S is too introverted to reach out to a current student or a Professor to get more information about this major but perhaps your D may want to do this for more insight and information.
carly135, thanks for your input. May I ask what other colleges is he considering? We’re looking at WPI. We’re going to GMU’s admitted student day in March and WPI’s in April.
My S. is not sure if he wants to major in Game programming or just Computer Science. The other colleges he is considering is Towson in Maryland and Champlain in Vermont. Both of these other schools are wonderful however, Towson does not offer Game Programming although Champlain does. We are going back to admitted student’s day at both of those colleges and then he will decide. Although he likes GMU he is not thrilled about their campus and he is very picky. We did not consider or visit WPI due to cost. Good luck. Keep us posted.
