Computer Programming experts....advice?

Sorry, I didn't know where to post this......

Umm...I wanted to learn computer programming, any good advice on how to start?

can I use an eveyday computer?

yes you can. there're several programming languages. VB, C family, etc. You can get a book on prgramming almost anywhere.

What's the best language to learn for beginners?

I would have to say Basic (GW or Q anyone). I think that is the best way to start programming. The language is long outdated but it will definitely strenghthen your basics and then you can pretty much advance to any object oriented language (I am assuming that you want to make yourself a strong programmer and are not merely doing this for a hobby).
Also get yourself some good books on basic algorithms

I dont know.....I think Java or C++
I started with Java and though it was hard, Its the language used for the AP exam :)

So my vote is for Java

Python most definitely.

Python is a very powerful high-level language which is relatively easy to pick up. My vote goes for Python as well

Hmmm....you guys are giving be a barrage of answers

Can you describe them?

Which is the most beneficial?

hmm how old are you and what grade are you in? because If you want to take the comp. science AP exam Java would be more beneficial. I myself have never tried Python so I cannot comment on it-Ive only know C++ and java

I thought Python was something that converts analog video to digital files. I guess I was very wrong. I only know Java and C++ too. If you start anywhere, picking up anything else is much easier.

I don't know Python. Java is hard to learn though (classes and stuff). Out of the ones I know (VB, Java, C++, Matlab, Ampl), C++ is the easiest to learn and most useful.

yes I was gonna edit, but the forums a little slow :P
C++ is an easier programming language than java

Don't learn BASIC, it will corrupt you mind. OOP is the only way to go.

MAN! All this Comp. Program. jargon is racking my brain.....

BASIC, C++, VB, Ampl, PYTHON,..... there might as well be UN, FAFSA, NAFTA, NATO, EU....

I'm a junior BTW and I don't really want to take an AP test......I just want to learn and have some fun.

Also, Matlab is a language?

when i learnt for fun i went with basic. that was 6 years ago. :)

Wait I forgot about Dark Basic You could use that too :)

what about website programming? are you considering that too?
