Hi all,
I am currently a senior in high school and I KNOW what I want to do. For me, I really love technology & I want to get an undergraduate degree in Computer Engineering(preferbly) or Computer Science. I am applying to Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and RIT.

First off, I am a girl - I have heard mixed rumors about the gender role when it comes to technology. I know especially for schools like GT and RIT with a 7:3 ratio, I've heard they ENCOURAGE girls to pursure engineering/computer science. Does this mean they are more linient so to speak, when accepting applications? Or is this all a myth? Does gender really not play an important role when it comes to getting into tech schools?

Second, My first choice is computer engineering - I KNOW especially for these schools, that this is a competitive field to get into. I talked to my counseler about what she thought of it, and when I revealed that I did NOT take physics she told me to "not even bother." Is this true? I know that many courses do require pre-requestes but those prerequesites are usually filled the freshman year of college aren't they?

And as for computer science, Well, I know computer science deals with a majority of C++/JAVA/Computer languages. I did sample Computer Programming during high school, and I completely regret it - I got a C first semester and a D second due to a teacher who hated his job. If I apply under computer science, will my bad programming grades hinder my chances of getting accepted?

Math...was never my strong subject as well. Throughout the years, I have basically had a C average in all of my math classes.

The thing is, although I did less than superb in programming and math, although I didn't take physics, I have taken many other technology classes: Software Applications, Web Design, Advanced Web tools, Computer Maitenence.(I have gotten A's in every single one of those classes) && On top of that I am the only girl to have a computer internship as well.
My application essay really centers around my love for technology as well.
**and if it helps, I have had a great upwards trend in my GPA. Instead of it going down when I take harder classes, its been going up. I have literally gone from a 2.67GPA to the 3.48 that I have now.

Should Computer Engineering/Computer Science be out of my reach, Are there any other technology degrees I can recieve? What other options are avaliable to me?

As for the numbers...GPA: 3.48 SAT: 1700

Feel free to be candid, and ANY responce, ANY opinion at all would really help. I'm looking to turn in my applications this weekend.

Thank you all in advance.
