Computer Science for A/B+/C+ student from CA. GPA 3+, ACT 34, Runs own CS startup $$$K turnover

Hi though the application deadline is coming to a close, Reaching out to the esteemed CC as last resort, that may be very valuable. The student is in CA, an “outlier” bright mind in general, and “I can not describe issue” that prevents him from focusing on GPA and running his own act/business instead. He is interested in the area of CS. He got Admission in University of Arizona for CS, no other result came. Going to apply to CSU (s) and some outside colleges. The goal is to be there in a “reputed” place where he will meet talented Kids and somewhat challenged, not rigorous. He is one of the youngest in the class ,may be that was also factor or not, but in his Sr year more concerned about Grade, much better, all A, or B+. This yr his ACT 1st try is 34. He runs his own startup in area of offering SW Services, cyber security, Sever hosting. Actually does not like what to be told, wanting his best , college options that can be best fit for case like this?? Outside CA is fine. THANK YOU FOR TAKING YOUR TIME.

The big question for you (the parent) would be the cost constraints.

Also, student’s GPA?

The cost is bearable, the GPA is really that, barely 3+.

For UCs and CSUs, the weighted-capped GPA calculated by the method at https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/ will be what you can compare to most published GPAs.

By “bearable” cost, you mean up to $70,000 per year is ok (without parent loans or parent-cosigned loans – student loans are limited to $5,500-7,500 without a cosigner)?

Sounds like school would be a waste of time for the kid.

I am with CalDud. Why college? It would be a waste of time, especially for CS. Do they even want to go to college?

Interesting view point @CalDud and @CCtoAlaska and can be valid as such . For my perspective that path comes with real high risk?. A formal education in a formal setting would teach a growing young mind learn stuff, they mostly will not learn informally (as not needed at the moment). My personal guess, a CS school would force the student to learn the many Algorithms and learn to “think” through , also allow to meet a group of people in same social setting for 4 years, they can network for life. One can not be sure their own startup would last long…without a formal paper CS degree, getting a Gig in Big Name Co, any Visa for any Gig in a foreign country would be very much not possible. US Govt just made H1B visa change so that a Master Degree is needed for better chance getting a H1B Visa by a foreigner. Thank you.

How many customers he has? How much money he makes? Is this real?

Marriott exposed private info of more than 500 million customers and is facing big lawsuits.

What is the risk, really? Some people need more time to mature and decide for themselves to go to college. Maybe he would want to study something completely different by that point.
