Hi,
I am trying to decide which major to study. I want to study engineering but unfortunately it will cost me nearly an extra $40,000 to graduate later than expected. Studying Computer Science will only cost me an extra $10,000 and I can graduate on time. I want to study engineering because at my school, Computer Engineers learn a bit of everything before focusing on the specific major. We also get the choice of studying more hardware or more software towards our senior year. I am most likely just going to study more software but I want to learn a bit of hardware as well. CS majors study only CS and there is an option to learn one class of embedded systems. In CE I can learn embedded systems and Circuits and Circuit Design. I know what the immediate and obvious answer is, which is to take the cheaper route but I can’t help but feel that the CE major will be more worth it in the long run. Is this true? Will it be better to stick with engineering and take the financial risk? Or should I be smart about my money and go CS? What are my setbacks aside from the financial burden that each major has? As in, will one guarantee me a job more than the other or are they both the same and it just matters what I know? (from an employers perspective for that last question)
Thank You.
