Computer Science

How solid is the computer science program at Santa Clara? I am aware that its proximity to Silicon Valley allows for good job opportunities. However, are large companies such as Apple and Google picking up grads from this school or are they leaning more towards heavy hitters like Stanford and CAL Berkeley?

I asked my husband who has worked high tech in Silicon Valley for 20+ years this generic question. His response was two-fold. First, that the “big names” are schools like CAL, Stanford and MIT. However, in the actual interview process, how the applicant handles questions about computer science and of course, their previous experience, is the deciding factor.

So, while having attended a big name school can offer a moment of recognition, the content of the applicant’s knowledge is still the deciding factor–and if the programmer has the knowledge and/or experience, the hiring company doesn’t care where the degree came from.
