Can anyone tell me which textbooks that a computer science freshman would require and where I could find them cheapest? thanks in advance
It would depend on the teacher and the class. My daughteris in FC and already registered for classes and some of the classes already list which books are required.
ohh⊠so I couldnât start studying early even if I wanted to? I am coming from India and I have like 4 months of holidays and I wanted to get a head start⊠could you recommend something for me to do?I am already learning programming and I wanted to know if there is anything else I could do?
@RossandRachel - Here is the website for CS courses that will be offered in the fall. If you click on the words âShow Sectionsâ, it will expand to show the days and times the classes will be held. Over to the right of each class will be an icon that looks like a stack of books. Click on that and it will show textbooks for that class. Be aware that most professors have probably NOT yet provided that info.
Textbooks should be listed by the time you register for classes at orientation. The ISBN number will be listed for each book. You can buy the books, rent them at Amazon or other places, and some may have lower priced online versions. My D has rented a lot of class books. Itâs usually not hard to do.
Thanks alot @SoofDad! Also I heard that registering for classes is a very big problem as there isnt enough space⊠is this the case? Anything I could do to register early? I havenât committed⊠would committing allow me to register earlier? I basically dont want to be waitlisted for any class.
@RossandRachel - As far as I know, class registration for Freshman is only done during orientation and you must enroll (commit) to signup for one of the orientation sessions. You cannot register for classes without being an enrolled student.
Registering for required classes is not generally a big problem.
Please read the following thread about Freshman Orientation. There is some info about classes and waitlists.
