Computer science?

Hi,

I have become interested in learning more about robotics recently. Up to this point I have not made up my mind on what I would like to pursue as a possible career but I feel "making robots" is exciting enough for me. Other than computer science what other fields will yeild a future robotic engineer? Is there actually a major in "robots"? Sorry if I don't know much.

Thank you in advance!

Electrical Engineering.

In addition to EE and CS, MechE is a good one for a future roboticist.

I wish there was a discrete academic field for Robotic Engineering :(

CE usually includes robotics as well. In general though, like many other “new” fields, robotics takes engineers from all disciplines.

Some schools have it structured as one, but really, you don’t need it. Major in a field that is a robotics feeder, take robotics classes (MIT offers several), do a robotics UROP or internship, and you should be good to go. Plus, with your less specific degree, you’ll have more versatility.

I forgot an obvious robotics feeder major - course 16! Aeronautical/astronautical engineering!
