Concerning Hot Girls and Oberlin...

he currently gets extra time on tests in high school and I wondered if this continues in college

I don't know about Oberlin specifically, but my experience at other schools has been that students with a documented learning disability like ADHD are accommodated based on their needs. Typically, I've seen time-and-a-half for exams, but no additional time on weekly assignments. I believe that most of this gets handled through a Dean's office and the student gets a letter that they give to their instructor explaining their specific accommodations.

Hi

This may seem like a shallow question, but my sanity over the next 4 years depends on this… Are there many hot guys at Oberlin that aren’t sexist idiots? I’ve fallen in love with the school, but I’ve been thinking about the kinds of people it attracts and I’m afraid that there won’t be many hot guys who aren’t sexist idiots.

I feel a bit nervous about the condition of its male population, so to speak. I was hoping I could get an honest answer here. Thanks.

What makes you think Oberlin attracts sexist idiots? Sounds like you may have a pretty distorted image of the school. Check out the [Oberlin Blogs](http://blogs.oberlin.edu/) to get a clearer picture.

Im definetely not an idiot…lolz.Dont worry about it…out of 2800 the probabilities are high that you will narrow down the right subset of non-idiots.

LOL, beeeee. Well said. :)

Ah, I get it now–I had no idea what the 2005 OP had said. (Seems quite unlikely that he’ll see this in any case.)

I’ve applied to Oberlin for the class of 2015. I’m an international student so I didn’t get a chance to visit.
I am a very science research related person. I believe academics are supremely important but at the same time I do believe in having fun. You know, not the drinking the night away, fun ; just regular going for bowling fun, debating about political topics fun, playing the guitar and singing fun.
I’m definite that Oberlin will satiate my academic curiosity but do the people indulge in the above activities/similar activities as well?
What is the social scene really like?

@TradingYesterday you just described me.I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Trading-- that also describes me. I think we will find a lot of like minded people at Oberlin.

Bowling? There is a bowling alley on campus and free bowling during freshman orientation week. Guitar and singing? Duh. Debating political topics? Carry a sign around campus that reads “Sarah Palin for President” and you’ll get plenty of debate (sorry, couldn’t resist).

I think you’ll find what you’re looking for.

macmil, aloh and plainsman - That’s really great to know. I guess Oberlin WILL BE a pretty good fit for a lot of us.
Does anyone know when are they sending out the letters?
I’m an international so I’ll be getting an e-mail notification before, I guess.

Swap “bowling” for “contra dancing”, and throw in some impromptu screenings of sci-fi B-movies, and this sounds like my life at Oberlin :)

@Trading I have no idea,Im an ED1er.But I guess you should expect something between March 20th and April 1.April 1 should be the absolute latest.good luck, hope you join us in the class of 2015(We NEED more internationals :l

“You know, not the drinking the night away, fun …”

There are other things people may do for fun.

quaere- sci-fi movies are fun. But I have NO idea what contra dancing is!
Macmill- Congratulations! Yeah, around April 1 is what I’m expecting too.

[Contra Dancing Explained](http://www.folkproject.org/fp_contra.shtml)

My D also takes Tango lessons weekly as an ExCo, then goes to both tango and salsa dances on campus. Lately, she has gotten into cooking for dinner parties in her dorm - international stuff and she really likes that. FYI - she never lifted a skillet at home. There’s also a movie theatre on campus.

Agree with most of the above. I don’t know about Oberlin nowadays, but if Sarah Palin was as prominent back in the '90s when I attended, waving that sign would not be recommended. You’ll certainly get much more than plenty of debate. Maybe an extremely warm group reception with free torches and pitchforks…LOL. :D

POTO Mom,

Much the same happened with my daughter and cooking. Never did much at home, other than to reheat things. At Oberlin, she joined a dining co-op and by junior year became a head cook in charge of supervising preparation of vegan dinners for 80 a couple of times a week. She started cooking really tasty things at home after that, but had to learn to throttle way back on the quantity.

I’m OHS c/o 2002
And I went to OC for 2 years afterwards [but left cause it wasn’t so great for something like Chemical Engineering (my major). Well that and a lot of family drama].

I lived in Oberlin from 1998-2006 before moving.
I love the town and frequently go and visit. Especially if schools in.

During school one of my hobbies while living there was to sit in front of gibsons with an ice cream cone and chill early after noon as people walked past [this is near the conservatory and across from tapan square if you’re wondering]. Lot’s of hot chicks. Lot’s of ugly chicks. But still, hot chicks.

And they’re friendly enough that all you gotta do is say hello to start up a decent convo.
Back then I was a bit of a man whore. from 02’ to 04’ I pretty much slept with about 3 different girls a month [that’s with very little effort].

And it was pretty cool cause very few were upset that I wasn’t looking for a relationship, cause they sure as hell weren’t either.

I also liked to go to the gym and play tennis or work out or whatever.
And, well, of course the girls there are in shape [I mean, it’s the gym] and they’re also really friendly and easy going. Most girls from the gym I met on the tennis court.

Then there’s friday and saturday nights.
On average about 4 parties going on. The sorta parties you don’t need an invite for, you just show up and byob and everything’s cool. Sometimes there’s a door charge or they have drinks for sale. Lot’s of hot chicks in these parties, which are easy to find [if you’re out of the loop just go to tappan square around 11 or so and you’ll see a crowd walking some direction i.e. the direction of a party going on. Follow them].

Also I liked to skateboard and roller blade and you meet a lot of people just doing that alone [plus oberlin’s got a lot of great spots to skate].

But winter… it’s like a ghost town.
Summer is less traffic, but still decent.
The Feve is a great place to meet people and get intel on parties.
The sco usually has something going on where you can meet people.

I personally don’t advise the conservatory… I mean the girls are hot and all but they’re usually in practice rooms practicing and not in the mood to chat with you. Personally I just go there to practice piano once in a while [everyday when I lived there].

But be warned, as others have already mentioned, the girls aren’t very shallow and if you are they wont be that into you.

There’s also Asia house [hot chicks in there] and Fairchild [also hot chicks].
If you’re really all about hot girls though, just go to oxy
