<p>I am a Sophomore here, and I really don't think there is a story. I have encountered it very infrequently, and I would certainly say that it is used here no more than at any other university.</p>
<p>Is Emory well known outside of Atlanta?</p>
<p>it is definitly well known on the east coast since alot of it's students are from the north east. we do have alot of students from california but i'm not sure about emory's popularity in the midwest/west. maybe someone from that area can let you know. also, with the current increase in national rankings for the undergrad school and the business school, more people are knowing about emory as the years go by.</p>
<p>In my experience, compared to other colleges of the same caliber, it is not well known by the layman.</p>
<p>Yeah, I agree with Blaze991. If you are from the Midwest, name recognition is low. However, this in no way detracts from the elite-level Emory has attained.</p>
