Confused on Med School

When Psychiatrists go to Medical School , do they take the same classes as others who are pursuing degrees in Medicine ? &What type of classes do they take ?

Please give me feedback. I'm really confused on this! Thanks.

people interested in psychiatry do not do anything different from anyone else earning an MD until they get to residency (i.e. after medical school)

On an inpatient psych unit, the psychiatrists usually have to deal with most of the medical problems of the patients especially since many of the drugs have lots of side effects so it’s not like the medical training isn’t important for them too.

If all you are interested in is talk therapy, I recommend doing some research on PhDs and social work degrees.

.Psychiatrists do talk therapy also though don’t they since they prescribe medicine ? And so after they’re done with Med School they can’t really do much until after the residency right ?

yes, but the way insurance pays out they have been shifting more and more away from it and more and more towards drug management.

No one can “do much” until after residency regardless of specialty.

I was more saying that if the only part of psychiatry that appeals to you is talk therapy, then an MD is probably not the best path.

.Oh Okay Thanks & Well , I’m interested in both but I don’t do so well at basic Chemistry, just chemistry that involves mental health.
