D interviewed for prod/design on campus in Nov and was told that decisions would be made in early March after all interviews were complete, so we are puzzled by the letter she received today thanking by her for interviewing and letting her know that “at this time, the faculty has decided to defer a decision on your admission until Feb 23, 2018. Once I have their decision I will email you.”
Anyone with past experience at UNCSA able to comment?
We can’t figure out if this is just an acknowledgement of her interview or some kind of indication that she may hit the waitlist. She asked me if I thought it was a good or bad thing and I honestly had to say I’ve no idea.
Anyway, it just injected a good bit of nervous, worried energy into the first day of what we are hoping is a relaxing holiday break. Ack.
My S interviewed for Film in November and he received a deferral that read: “We still have a number of candidates to review before we make final offers of admissions. You should know your application is strong enough to keep you in contention for a seat in our program.”
Someone said in another thread that they accept 20, defer 30 and reject 50 in each round. This is for film but I imagine prod/design are the same.
I think it means they will look at your D (and my S) again with the next round of interviews. From what we heard, they actually accept fewer than that in the first round but a lot of students who were deferred initially get accepted later.
Hope that helps, and good luck!
Drama does acceptances differently but in past years i recall reading about the deferrals in P&D. Think it means she is still being considered. Much better than a no! Fingers crossed for you. The March date given is probably the final decision date.
Just back from holiday vacation. Thanks for your responses!
