Confusion about my UCLA Financial Aid

okay so I checked my online financial aid and it showed that the total cost to attend UCLA would be about 29K. All my financial aid gift amounted to about 20K, thats including the Scholarship Recognition award which was about 4K. My question is how would I pay for the rest of the 9K if my Total Family Contribution is 0. I really want to attend UCLA, but I don't want to take any loans.

For me, my cost of living in the dorms and attending UCLA will be around 25K, which includes books and travels (for me, it’s between Norcal and Socal). I’m guessing the 29K figure they give is on the conservative side and I’m sure you can find ways to trim your budget to close the gap.

If you have a cheap housing option, get good deals on textbooks and don’t spend a lot on the side, it will be closer to $25k. From there you’ll need scholarships or a job to bridge the gap. As far as I know there are plenty of jobs available on campus that pay a decent amount, though working 15 hr/wk from the start wouldn’t be ideal. The scholarship resource center has some scholarship opportunities for UCLA students, and there are outside scholarships too, though none of these are probably easy to get.

Aside from that, loans might be the only way to go. If you got a job, you could probably graduate $10k-$20k in debt, maybe less. The higher value would take around $200 a month for 10 years to repay.

you can pay for the rest by taking out loans and working part time. its part of college life, but you can still apply for more scholarships after your submit your intent to register. also, since your EFC is 0, you will qualify for work study. a
