Congrats to those admitted ED - Are you happy with your FinAid?

Those students who let their ED school know that the aid package is unacceptable, can try to work with the school. If that fails, they can request and get released from the commitment. But they often have no idea whether this is a good package or not, and as it’ a week before Christmas, a lot of college offices are closing, so it will be well into next year before all of this is resolved, if it indeed can be.

Hopefully, other apps are on the way out as many selective schools and scholarships have 12/31 deadlines. Doesn’t make for a good holiday break with all of this hanging over a family. Not a good start for the new year. The blow when one has to back out of ED and start from scratch hurts. Even more painful for a longer time is when parents capitulate and borrow to pay for their kids’ dreams, when they really can’t afford to do so. I see than more than I do back outs from ED.

Got accepted ED at Johns Hopkins, had nearly 72% of my tuition/room/board covered by FA. Honestly couldn’t be happier right now.

^^ Thank you and congrats!

I too would like to hear current answers to the actual question rather than conventional wisdom.

(Using the illustration given earlier, if Stoneybrook and Georgetown are the same to your family if one is vastly cheaper, it makes little difference where the applicant attends, so why bother with the ED exercise at all.)
