College Sustainability Report Card, 2008

An updated ranking of college's green policies was released with generally good news. More than two-thirds showed improvement over last year's assessment.

Among the standout leaders:

"Only Carleton, Dartmouth and Williams were recognized as Endowment Sustainability Leaders, with an A- or better across the three endowment categories."

you'll notice we gain a lot of points from "endowment transparency"...

on the other hand, middlebury gets an A in every category except "endowment transparency", so while it has the same overall grade as dartmouth, it is much better on a campus scale - one could argue that transparency of endowment isn't really all that important to how sustainable a school is.

for what it's worth (for those of you who don't want to scroll through the report cards yourselves) for the seven categories other than "endowment transparency", dartmouth received 4 B's and 3 A's.

As nice as it is to be an "endowment leader", i think being a campus sustainability leader would be more effective and perhaps give the school more to be proud of; perhaps that should be the true goal. In any case, the college is certainly up there in terms of overall sustainability, which, if you've ever seen how things are conducted, is sort of sad.
